Hello Chapter Presidents & Treasurers.
IRS regulations require us to document the money we generate through fundraising events. We don't have to pay tax on it, but we do have to document it thoroughly.
I've created a form that must be used for all fundraising events, regardless of the beneficiary. If you are raising money for your own chapter, you must still report it to National. If you are raising money for National or the Foundation, it must be reported.
I'm not sure if we have to report money we raise specifically for another charitable organization or for an individual in need, but let's do it anyway. The information may be valuable to us or may benefit us in the future! (It won't be reported to the IRS if we don't have to report it).
The form I created is a MicroSoft Word template and is designed as a form. Hopefully, you have access to MS Word and know how to use templates and forms. I've mailed the form to you. (If you could not open the attachment, download the template here or get and print our online version.)
Instructions for MS Word version of Form 001
If you have and can open the MS Word template, either:
- Move or download the template – right click on this link: leaguef1.dot – and save the file in the subdirectory where Word currently looks for templates. Typically, I believe it is
c:\program files\microsoft office\templates
- Or change the setting to look for the template wherever you decide to keep this file.
To fill out a form,
- Select File …New,
- Specify document instead of template
- Select Tools …Templates and base the document on our fundraiser template.
Note: The "Sponsoring Chapter" field is a dropdown menu from which you can select your chapter.
When you've completed the form, save the document. (The document should have a .doc file extension. I don't care what you name the file because I will rename it on my end,)
Then, email the file to me as an attachment.
Instructions for Online Form
If you don't have access to Word or could not open the template, you can print the online version and fax the completed form to our National Treasurer, Brian Luzader, at 303-645-0455If you fax the form to him, please call Brian – 303-645-0303 – when you're done, so he knows the fax is waiting. This is not his personal fax machine.
