LEAGUE National – Our Governing Body

LEAGUE at AT&T serves as a central source for information on the subject of homosexuality, bisexuality, transgender and lesbian and gay issues in the workplace. Resources include books, pamphlets, and videotapes that are available for loan to our members. LEAGUE acts as a referral service to company support services and complaint handlers, and to community and service groups in the area.

The national leadership of LEAGUE at AT&T meets twice a year for face-to-face business meetings. One of these meetings is held immediately before the national Professional Development Conference in the host city. Because LEAGUE had grown over the years, the national leadership determined it needed another opportunity to meet. This mid-year meeting takes place about six months after the annual Professional Development Conference.

In 1994, the first mid-year meeting took place in Indianapolis, Indiana. Salt Lake City, Utah was the host site for the 1995 meeting. In 1996, LEAGUE traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, LEAGUE went to Jacksonville, Florida in October 1997 and to Denver, Colorado in September 1998.

Safe Space logo. LEAGUE National also sponsors the Safe Space* Program. This program was designed by Bell Labs to provide a nonthreatening way for managers and employees to make a statement that homophobia and hostility would not be tolerated in the workplace. Displaying the program's decal or magnet in your workplace area allows you to create a "safe space" for lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgenered employees and their allies.

The Safe Space Program and logo became the property of EQUAL! at Lucent when AT&T spun off its equipment units in 1996. EQUAL has granted a licent to LEAGUE at AT&T to continue promoting the program.

National LEAGUE consists of elected and appointed officers, who manage LEAGUE's strategic initiatives via the executive staff and various committees; collectively they're known as the executive team.
