Denise Hill, 314-235-3656. send email- LEAGUE's National Co-Presidents provide overall leadership, set strategic and tactical direction for the organization and act as strategic partners to the corporation for issues that affect LEAGUE members, as well as the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender (LBGT) community of customers. Because two co-presidents are elected for a two-year term (male elected one year, female the next), the duties listed here may be split or shared, as the incumbents see fit. The National Co-Presidents' responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Appoint non-elected national officials including Executive Vice Presidents (EVPs), Vice Presidents (VPs) and other National Staff positions. Create an organizational architecture, which may necessitate creation of new positions or modification of existing positions, as needed to improve LEAGUE's operations.
- Determine the strategic direction of LEAGUE. Establish long- and short-term goals and priorities; establish measurements and assign operational responsibilities for their implementation. Evaluate progress toward goals and make goal corrections based on environmental changes within and outside the corporation.
- Provide tactical support to the National Staff via regular conference calls, email and telephone conversations. Act as a sounding board and mentor for other LEAGUE officials, as well as provide clear direction, expectations and timely feedback on National officials' performance and deliverables.
- Advocate and provide coaching/education to the Corporation (both Human Resources [HR] and business operational managers and executives) on issues that involve or affect the LBGT employee or customer. This includes items such as "taking the temperature of an organization," evaluating the impact of corporate policy on LEAGUE constituents or providing advice on the most effective way to market to the LBGT community.
- Advise Corporate Public Relations about public and internal messages and customer and employee perceptions with regard to media that relate to the LBGT community. Work to resolve issues and develop effective communication plans.
- Assure LEAGUE's financial stability: negotiate with Business Operating Unit (BOU) representatives for corporate funding, approve or reject expense proposals, interface with the Treasurer to ensure sound financial policies.
- Establish and maintain a Board of Directors; use its members to provide advice and counsel on critical LEAGUE-related business issues.
- Interpret the existing bylaws and policies and establish new policies, as needed, to provide sufficient structure to govern the organization.
- Establish National Leadership meeting agendas and run the meetings to ensure National representation and participation at the chapter level.
- Represent LEAGUE at EWmployee Resource Group (ERG) Presidents meetings, as well as other meetings with corporate executives, BOU Champions and Diversity councils or other strategic meetings within the Company. Represent LEAGUE at National LBGT functions -- i.e., NGLTF Creating Change Conference, GLAAD Awards, etc.
- Establish an effective working rapport with AT&T Executives, Corporate HR and BOU Representatives, as well as the LEAGUE National Staff, Chapter Officials and Leadership to ensure the successful resolution of LEAGUE issues.
- Devise and develop value-added relationships with LEAGUE advisors.
- Support the six other ERGs. This includes championing issues, attending conferences, meetings, conference calls, sharing best practices, and providing personal advice and support.
- Interpret and convey corporate messages that affect the constituency to the constituency.
- Motivate the membership to participate in AT&T events, endeavors and programs that provide benefits to the member, to LEAGUE and to the corporation.
To ensure a co-president has adequate time to perform these duties, participate in needed meetings and respond to Corporate inquiries, as needed, this position requires the financial support and work-assignment flexibility of the co-president's work organization, This position also requires travel, including attendance at ERG and other Conferences, speaking engagements and ERG Council meetings. LEAGUE work hours (about 30 hours per week) are in addition to the co-president's normal work week.

(Reports to Co-Presidents)- The Office of National Secretary gathers, records and maintains information about the organization, both current and historical. The Secretary's Office also ensures compliance with the bylaws and other policies governing the organization. The responsibilities of this annually elected officer include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintains a list of all dues-paying LEAGUE members by Chapter (refer to National Bylaws). Receives periodic updates to the members lists from the Treasurer and EVP(s) of Membership.
- Maintains a complete list of National and Chapter Leadership information, including lists of chapter presidents, contacts and other chapter executives, as well as the National Staff. Provides these lists to the Email Director to support development and maintenance of National broadcast codes (e-mail lists). These lists are also provided to other LEAGUE Officers, as needed.
- Takes roll call on all Leadership calls. Monitors and reports the status of chapters and provides official notification of active/inactive status to chapter officials, as required.
- Supports a Recording Secretary, VP of Nominations, Parliamentarian and Statistician in the performance of their duties. Provides general guidance and establishes performance goals for those offices.

(Reports to Co-Presidents)- This office is responsible for maintaining LEAGUE books. The Office of National Treasurer records and manages all monetary transactions of the organization and ensures its continued financial solvency. The Treasurer's office establishes accounting and tracking methods at the organizational level, as well as procedures required to manage projects and fundraising efforts. The responsibilities of this annually elected officer include, but are not limited to the following:
- Supports and chairs the Finance Committee, whose purpose is to establish, manage and balance all National LEAGUE bank accounts. The Finance Committee also manages the LEAGUE Corporate American Express account and the Merchant account used for registration fees or charges at LEAGUE events and National meetings. The Committee also produces periodic financial reports, including an annual report, to be presented to the LEAGUE Leadership Council for acceptance.
- Maintains a list of all dues-paying LEAGUE members by Chapter (refer to National Bylaws). Coordinates periodic updates to the members lists with the EVP(s) of Membership and submits the updates to the National Secretary.
- The Treasurer helps National LEAGUE Officials build functional budgets and develops and maintains subaccount tracking to support project- and budget-level tracking (cost accounting).
- Manages all receivables (deposits) to LEAGUE National and all disbursements (check payments) from LEAGUE National, including:
- Receives and deposits National membership dues
- Pays suppliers and deposits attendee payments for annual conferences or National meetings
- Disburses scholarships for LEAGUE conferences or National meetings
- Pays supplier for annual recognition awards
- Handles receivables and disbursements from the Silent Auction and other LEAGUE fundraisers
- Reimburses expenses incurred by members on behalf of LEAGUE National, etc.
- Supports invoicing function to bill "customers" i.e., BOU funding process, etc. as necessary.
- Supports the VP of Fundraising, whose responsibilities include identifying and implementing activities aimed at generating funds for the organization. Fundraising objectives are established with the LEAGUE Executive Staff and are aimed at financial independence by the year 2005.
- Documents and reports financial information, as required, to the IRS.
- Serves on the Conference Planning Committee (Finance). Advises all LEAGUE conference and meeting committees about establishing budgets and financial tracking procedures; oversees the registration process to ensure timely registration reports required by other committees, i.e., graphics for name tags, food for meal selection, etc.

(Reports to TBD)- Responsible for maintaining internal communication between LEAGUE National and the LEAGUE Chapters through the LEAGUE national mailers that are maintained by the Email Director. Through press releases to the LBGT and mainstream press, the EVP of Communications -- working with the VP of Public Relations -- publicizes both National and local LEAGUE accomplishments and activities. The EVP also administers all National and local LEAGUE advertising.

(Reports to TBD)- Promotes volunteerism on the national and chapter levels. Works with chapter leaders to make the membership aware of volunteer opportunities in their area and/or how to develop such projects. Promotes and educates membership regarding the registration of volunteer hours on the LEAGUE "Accomplishments" website. Keeps volunteerism in our collective focus. Promotes giving campaign with focus on the LEAGUE Foundation Scholarship Fund.
Co-ordinates local LEAGUE chapter and National LEAGUE's efforts to help the communities where we live and work. Oversees all LEAGUE at AT&T volunteer community service activities, including LEAGUE participation in AT&T Cares events, and activities to benefit organizations that support the LBGT community and the communities were LEAGUE employees work and live.

(Reports to TBDf)- This executive oversees the production of a LEAGUE Professional Development and Leadership Skills Training Meeting. The Planning EVP chooses the meeting's zates and place based on Company criteria, and plans and negotiates the food and accommodation contract. He or she is president of the Planning Committee that consists of the chairs of the subcommittees: agenda, marketing/publicity, food, entertainment, hospitality, etc. This EVP, working with the Planning Committee, selects the meeting's theme, logo and format. Tasks include presiding over regular planning meetings to develop an agenda, conference publicity, funding and general administration. Also required are reports about the meeting status on each LEAGUE Executive Staff call or monthly Leadership conference call.

(Reports to EVP of Workplace Equity)- Develops bargaining demands, does political education, works with the Union to develop mutual political goals. Also enables communications with Pride at Work (AFLCIO constituency group for LBGT -- you don't have to be a union member to be a member of that group) and the national union, and communicates with union locals where problems arise over LBGT issues. Other duties may be assigned by the Co-Presidents.

(Reports to TBD)- Serves as liaison between LEAGUE and other AT&T ERGs to encourage partnership and unity in promoting AT&T's focus on diversity. Is also LEAGUE's point of contact on issues of discrimination in the workplace. Supports chapters with diversity issues and assists in helping LEAGUE become more diverse in its membership. Also serves as liaison between LEAGUE and external LBGT diversity groups.

(Reports to EVP of Workplace Equity)- Responsible for helping to develop, implement and maintain AT&T's domestic partner benefits (DPB) program. He or she collects and documents members' issues and questions regarding the scope, eligibility, enrollment and administration of AT&T's Domestic Partner Benefits. The Facilitator conveys member's problems to AT&T Human Resources and Employee Benefits organizations and reports results to membership. In addition, he or she gathers answers to DPB-related questions and formulates FAQs (frequently asked questions that, after approval by AT&T Benefits, are posted to the LEAGUE intranet website as a permanent employee reference.

(Reports to TBD)- The EVP of Education oversees production of all LEAGUE educational materials, whether directed internally or externally; staffs and manages the LEAGUE Speakers' Bureau; and administers all AT&T requests to LEAGUE for training. This EVP produces a yearly accounting of the value added to the corporation of LEAGUE training dollars. He or she develops and oversees the LEAGUE mentoring program. In addition, this EVP is responsible for developing, sharing and implementing programs to inform our fellow employees about our issues, including The Safe Space Program -- a tool for educating employees and non-employess about our diversity issues, along with AT&T Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Statements. He or she identifies LEAGUE's educational needs and helps develop programs to meet those requirements (e.g., a course on effective communication with AT&T executives for LEAGUE leaders). This EVP maintains contact with corporate executive training programs and tracks LEAGUE members' participation. He or she also administers the national Safe Space program.

(Reports to EVP of Communication)- Responsible for the design and development of the Internet web site. Partners with other LBGT friendly, national businesses to market and promote issues and causes that LEAGUE supports.

- Establishes and maintains email lists for the national staff, the Leadership council and the At-Large chapter. He or she researches and resolves distribution problems. LEAGUE's national mailing lists enable the EVP of Communications -- and members -- to distribute LEAGUE messages to members.

(Reports to EVPs of LEAGUE Foundation)- This dotted line position reports to the LEAGUE Foundation Co-Presidents. The incumbent is also the Director of the LEAGUE Foundation Board and directs all Foundation activities, including fundraising, distribution of charitable gifts and reporting. He or she works with the Foundation Accountant to provide LEAGUE with a report of all Foundation financial and philanthropic activities.

(Reports to National Treasurer)- Works with the National Treasurer to increase the amount of dollars added to LEAGUE's operating budget. The Financial Director is responsible for creating and coordinating annual fundraising efforts on a national level. This person must forecast a fiscal goal and prepare a tactical plan to achieve that goal. The incumbent must be able to work with local chapters to develop their own team for achieving their set goal. The Treasurer appoints someone to this position for a one-year term.

(Reports to TBD)- Responsibilities include Best Practices with other corporations on LBGT issues -- such as the IBM think tank of 25 corporations. Also presents to colleges and corporations about LEAGUE and related issues, and represents LEAGUE at corporate events outside LEAGUE -- such as ASTD, SoL, College Days, Corporate Roundtables. Discusses with other related LBGT groups -- like HRC and GLAAD -- the possibility of coexistence and cooperation. Finally, looks at other issues for LEAGUE that have been adopted by other corporations such as pensions for domestic partners, IRS rulings, and marriage acts.

Provides equivalent updates to the Intranet Webmaster to ensure LEAGUE's internet and intranet sites remain in sync, where appropriate. Determines how the information on the internet site should vary from the intranet site, owing to proprietary and security considerations, etc. Negotiates with and determines the hosting service provider, ensures all invoices for the internet website are sent to the National Treasurer for payment, and registers the LEAGUE internet domain name with the appropriate agencies. Works with the Intranet Webmaster to evaluate ways to utilize the LEAGUE internet or intranet site to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of LEAGUE operations.

(Report to TBD)- The LEAGUE Foundation EVPs (a male and a female) work with the Foundation Board to establish fundraising and contribution goals, direct fundraising activities, determine annual Foundation scholarship criteria and select scholarship recipients. The EVPs are responsible for corresponding with the applicants to let winners of an award know their responsibilities and convey condolences to the others.

(Reports to TBD)- Responsible for working with the various AT&T Business Units to develop plans for marketing to our community. This executive directs the development of the LEAGUE volunteer sales staff. He or she works closely with the VP of Public Relations to identify sales opportunities, customer needs or market intelligence unique to the community. This executive maintains a list of AT&T sales and marketing executives. He or she builds a database of community sales and marketing opportunities and delivers this information to AT&T marketing organizations. In addition, this executive determines the value-added dollar worth of volunteer and other sales activities to AT&T; tracks and compares activity results; and reports about LEAGUE marketing activities to LEAGUE and AT&T executives;.

(Reports to TBD)- Two EVPs of Membership may be appointed -- one for the Eastern Region, the other for the Western Region. The EVP of Membership is responsible for developing and implementing plans to establish new chapters in the United States and abroad. Also responsible for developing plans to grow existing chapters. EVPs of Membership collect membership lists from Chapters in their region and coordinate the membership list with the National Treasurer to ensure accuracy between dues monies and members. The EVPs also administer the chapter membership lists and submit periodic updates to the National Secretary. They -- or a Membership Vice-President they appoint -- prepare and distribute membership cards, membership pins and "Chapter Information" disks to chapter contacts. The EVPs administer the dues exception policy and provide the member list and periodic updates to the Membership Vice-President to support distribution of member incentives and membership cards.

(Reports to EVP of Membership)- The Membership Committee develops all materials for national-level membership drives and incentive programs. It provides member-winning techniques and national-level membership drive materials to the chapters. The committee identifies member issues via focus groups and other direct interaction with members and presents these issues to the Leadership Council. In addition, the committee administers all national member programs, assists applicants for chapter status with the acceptance process, and administers programs to achieve LEAGUE's membership diversity objectives. It also identifies issues that prevent meeting diversity objectives; develops LEAGUE's member value statement; and directs outreach activities to attract executives, angels and members from other ERGs.

(Reports to National Secretary)- As a subject-matter expert on Robert's Rules of Order, the LEAGUE Parliamentarian is called on when issues arise about the rules of order or during constitutional discussions. The parliamentarian also administers the national election process.

Works with the EVP of Communications and chapter Public Relations contacts to publicize both National and local LEAGUE accomplishments and activities through press releases issued to the LBGT and mainstream press. This executive works closely with AT&T Public Relations managers to assure that LEAGUE's public response regarding AT&T and the company's policies and services align with company guidelines. This position serves as an advisor to AT&T Public Relations regarding the company's message to the community. Activities include developing a "who's who in the community" contact list; forwarding and tracking charitable or sponsorship requests for AT&T from community organizations; advising LEAGUE spokespersons of LEAGUE's message.

(Reports to EVP of Education)- The Speakers Bureau consists of volunteer LEAGUE speakers who can act as workshop leaders or give presentations to AT&T and external organizations on a variety of topics including general diversity issues, homophobia, LBGT workplace issues, the role of LEAGUE as an AT&T Business Partner, the Safe Space Program, etc. Volunteers get presentation materials that are prepared and maintained by the Education Committee and, depending on the sensitivity or complexity of the topic, may be trained and certified by the Education Committee members.

In particular, he or she maintains the LEAGUE Accomplishments website and provides regular reports of LEAGUE members' volunteerism and other activities to the National officers and Leadership Council. (Reports to TBD)- This executive champions equitable treatment of LBGT employees for a safe and supportive work environment, benefits, job growth and enrichment, and career advancement. He or she helps AT&T determine and implement policies and practices to create a supportive work environment that provides equal opportunity for all LBGT employees. The incumbent helps the EVP of Education develop general member educational materials or training sessions, and homophobia training as part of the AT&T diversity curriculum. This EVP oversees attainment of LBGT diversity goals. He or she devises methods to measure the safety and supportiveness of the work environment in each unit, evaluate and track the career movement of self-identified LBGT employees, and compare these data to averages for the company and other diversity groups. He or she also interfaces with AT&T Human Resources leaders about all location-specific workplace issues.
