For Release Thursday, March 11, 2004Employee Organization Calls For Unity On Equal Opportunity
BEDMINSTER, N.J. -- LEAGUE at AT&T (Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender United Employees) believes this session of Congress does not want to be the first to ask the 50 States to enshrine into our national soul approval of discrimination against an entire segment of our fellow Americans. In our workplaces, across our generous and freedom-loving country, corporate America has been one of the strongest leaders in promoting diversity and tolerance. Several programs implemented have taken root: equal hiring and promotion opportunities, generosity toward our local community organizations, and equal rights participation in corporate benefits programs including health coverage.
LEAGUE at AT&T strongly urges our elected representatives to call upon the leaders of the business community to testify on the positive changes within the workplace and how the counterproductive proposed Constitutional amendment to define marriage will divide this nation instead of uniting us.
Let Congress learn how our workplaces teach us the real benefits of our Nation's motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM.
