Shareholders Soundly Reject Second Attack on Nation's Oldest Workplace Non-Discrimination Policy

AT&T Shareholders voted on EEO Non-Discrimination Policy

Basking Ridge, N.J. -- AT&T Shareholders rejected once again the removal of the Nation's Oldest Workplace Non-Discrimination Policy today at the 118th Annual Meeting of AT&T Corp. in Charleston, S.C. This policy affecting lesbians and gay employees has been in effect since 1975.

With over 2.3 billion shares cast against (94%) only a scant 151 million shares (6%) supported the proposal.

According to Gregory P. Srnick, co-president of AT&T's Lesbian and Gay Business Resource Group (LEAGUE), "We are proud of the continued support of AT&T's Board of Directors, the Company's senior leadership as well as the support of the Communication Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. AT&T Shareholders are to be congratulated for again rejecting this regressive proposal, the eliminating of non-discrimination based upon sexual orientation. The primary purpose of this twenty-seven year old policy has always been to foster an inclusive workplace. This is not a special right. All employees should be free of discrimination."
