Esteemed Assembly & Officers!

Subject: 1998 AND BEYOND...Hello All,
Ron and I just want to share some things with you. Some personal things from our hearts and things that our Chapter has accomplished this year. As you will see this has been a terrific year for LEAGUE CENTRAL FLORIDA.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 1998
- We doubled our participation for the Martin Luther King parade. We marched with GLCS (Gay and Lesbian Community Services) and had a great time.
- We went from one to six officers the current year and we restructured our chapter to follow the structure of National.
- We have increased our membership by 20 percent and have approximately six first-time members of LEAGUE.
- We tripled participation in the Pride Parade this June and hosted an information booth at the Pride Fest event this year. We had a great turnout at our booth and also had members helping with other organizations during the day. We participated in a National raffle and raised dollars for the LEAGUE Foundation.
- We attended and purchased advertising for the Central Florida Gay Chorus events.
- We have participated in four different Diversity Day Events throughout the many Central Florida complexes. We currently have at least two more Diversity Day Events to participate before the year is over.
- We have had eight members commit to volunteer hours at GLCS (Gay and Lesbian Community Services). We are in the final stages of obtaining a grant from the AT&T Foundation for GLCS, so they can purchase a new phone system.
- We attended and joined the Metropolitan Business Association (MBA).
LEAGUE now is a member of the MBA and represents AT&T with the LGBT owned or friendly businesses within the Central Florida area.
WOW WHAT A YEAR SO FAR
Note from Ron
It has been a great year for LEAGUE CENTRAL FLORIDA and it is with regret that I will have to leave Florida at the end of this year. My partner John and I have decided to move the Pennsylvania to care for his ailing mother.
I just wanted to share this with you so that I may encourage each of you to stay actively involved and to keep this chapter alive. I would also like to encourage you to consider holding office next year and continue the great work that this chapter has begun and has worked hard for this past year.
If I can find a job within AT&T, I will definitely be involved in the Pennsylvania chapter. This has been a wonderful year for me personally because you members came forward to be a part of the great things LEAGUE has done. We all can be proud of how far LEAGUE has come in this community.
Ron Hardbower
Co-PresidentNote from Deb
I want to personally thank each of you for giving me the opportunity to be involved in this great organization. I have been extremely proud of all the things LEAGUE has done this year. Without the efforts of all of the members, who have stepped up and become active, we would have not been able to become the success that we are.
As some of you know, I am currently enrolled in the MCSE course being offered by Alliance. This program is and will continue to monopolize my time through Nov. 1999. It is with great sadness that I will not be able to run for Co-President next year; however, I plan to hold a different office one that I know will fit my schedule. I will continue to support our chapter through 1999.
I am announcing this as an attempt to get all of you to consider the office of Co-President. I would like to echo Ron when he said he wanted to encourage all of you to begin thinking of next year. LEAGUE CENTRAL FLORIDA has a great team of officers and members; and without that team, we would not have had the opportunity to become the success that we are.
I would like to see that for the year 1999 our chapter have the same opportunity and that would mean another great team. So if any of you find that you are interested in continuing or joining the team of officers for 1999, let Ron or myself know. We have discussed bringing the potential Co-presidents and Assembly officers on board (job shadowing) for a month or two, as an effort for you to see what some of the requirements are.
Just a few of my thoughts,
Deb Ponder
