LEAGUE at AT&T is the nation’s first and largest Gay Employee Business Resource Group.

In 1987, a handful of AT&T employees at the Denver facility returned from the March on Washington inspired, energized and convinced that they could change their part of the world … that they could build on the nation’s oldest corporate non-discrimination policy (AT&T, 1975) and enhance the workplace for all AT&T employees. They founded what was to become the first LEAGUE chapter.

Via electronic bulletin boards, word of LEAGUE soon spread across the country. In 1992, LEAGUE National was created and bound the loosely knit chapters together to form a common voice with a common vision. LEAGUE became the visible representative of more than 15,000 lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender AT&T employees.

In 1995, when AT&T's Chairman Bob Allen announced plans to split the company into three separate companies (AT&T, Lucent Technologies and NCR Corp.), LEAGUE immediately took to the task of trivesting itself. In 1996, LEAGUE was officially reorganized and three new organizations were created to align with the three new companies: LEAGUE at AT&T, EQUAL! at Lucent, and LEAGUE at NCR.

LEAGUE at AT&T is a proud and visible leader in the global business community as it partners with AT&T to capture markets and improve the workplace for all employees. LEAGUE has been hosted at the White House, it is considered a differentiator in AT&T’s marketing initiatives, and it has been emulated by every other major lesbian and gay employee business resource group in corporate America. LEAGUE is truly another AT&T success story.
